My New Obsession: "Machine Knight"

So, for a few months I didn't have a smart phone. (Those were dark, productive days...) But just a few weeks ago I got a kick-awesome LG phone that's pretty sweet, despite not having a QWERTY keyboard.

I decided I wanted a game on my phone, naturally. Playing an RPG had been a desire of mine for some time, so it seemed a perfect fit. I searched the reviews of the various RPGs, and picked one that matched my desire. That game is called "Machine Knight."

The game tells the story of a young man who travels worlds in search of a new power source. What he finds instead is that he has been betrayed.

"Machine Knight"'s format is much like the RPGs and Final Fantasies of old, which is exactly what I had hoped. It has side missions and many villains, and the wonderful opportunity to gain money with every battle. So I did what any decent human being would do: I became hooked.

Constantly, I seek enemies to attack so that I may gain money and level up my team of heroes. I try to execute every side mission possible before continuing on with the story. Always eager to get to the next town, I have a hard time staying in one place, but I do for the sake of exploring its every crevice.

There is one fault within the game. Whenever one desires to save, a timer appears on the save slot. This indicates how long the player has been actively playing the game. Why they would have a timer is anyone's guess, since this makes the player aware of their obsessive behavior, and consequently feel the same of playing for far too long. Your author has a game saved that's over 5 hours. But hey! It's not 24 hours yet, so I think I'm good.

If you're a fan of the old Final Fantasy games or just RPGs in general, I definitely recommend "Machine Knight." Bonus: It's actually free. It is not one of those games that claims to be free, but then drives you crazy with limitations until you actually spend money or quit. (The Facebook Hunger Games was the latter kind; I quit it in under an hour.)

Here's a sampling of some of the game:

Hey, it's been awhile, pt 1

I have not made a lengthy update of any form in some time. I decided to just throw a few of my thoughts onto the internet. Here are the few random things.

Graduation is coming up very soon. It feels like both the light at the end of the tunnel and yet some impending dark emptiness, for my life plans end after graduation. I have some plans, yes. But nothing really solid is ahead of me anymore. No real guarantees, save for Comic-con. I am both excited to be done with school and nervous for the unknown that lies ahead. It's a strange, albeit common, situation to be in. I feel like my head is forever playing the role of both Elrond and Arwen in Return of the King -
Elrond: "Nothing is certain..."
Arwen: "Some things are certain."
It's like my brain has some weird schizophrenia. (But not really. I'm mentally okay.)

I would love to make more ice cream bread, and particularly try to make it the appropriate size for my pan. Yes, online, I found a recipe using ice cream and self-rising flour that makes bread. I tried it with mint chocolate chip, and I found it quite delicious. (Friendly reminder to myself: I have ice cream in the fridge). I'd love to try different flavors and make more. But buying that much ice cream could get pricy.

I am trying to finish my novel. In November, for NaNoWriMo, I wrote 50,000 words of a novel. I even gave it a fake little ending. But that wasn't the real end. I want to actually finish it. I am so close. I believe I'm only about 3 or 4 chapters away from actually finishing it. I've outlined the chapters in more detail so that writing it will be easier. Now it's just finding time and proper motivation for writing it.
The problem is in that I know it's not a fantastic book, and there are details I'm leaving out and some parts I'm summarizing a bit too much. There are probably also some bits during which I give too much detail. So why actually finish such a mess? The answer is simple and, in some ways, obvious: To say that I did. I want to honestly say that I wrote a novel. That I set out to write a story, and I finished it. And once I'm done, I will likely actually kind of want people to read it, even in its rough version. Select few might get the chance. We'll see when that moment happens.
And it will. I'm promising myself that it will.

That's my life at the current moment. That, and my procrastination tool of the time is Pokemon Red. Classic fun!

NaNoWriMo '12 Thoughts - Day 28

I'm a NaNoWriMo WINNER

I’ve officially reached 50,000 words! I ordered the t-shirt. It’s completely legit!
Though my story isn’t actually finished.
I took a page out of FakeNNWMTips’s book and, once I crossed the 50,000 words line, closed it with “and then they were mauled by bears. The end…?”
That way, it felt like I actually finished a draft.
But in truth, I’ll need to keep writing through December. Oh well! I’m more than half-way finished! And I WON!

Lets take a moment

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that it’s saying I will likely be finishing today?
I like to think that’s true. :D

NaNoWriMo '12 Thoughts - Day 27

  • I am definitely going to have to revise this whole thing
  • This one character of mine needs to show off his wit more. I must go back and fix that
  • I’ve added in some important information that probably should have revealed itself sooner. At least it’s done now
  • My lead character is very forgiving
  • I’m back on track for having 15 chapters. I don’t know how I have so few
  • Someone’s about to die :o
I am at 46,709 words, which means I’m 3,291 words away from winning! I’m so close I can almost taste it! I am predicting I will be done on Thursday - if not tomorrow! :o
I’ve been writing so much (and often late at night). I’m pretty sure I look something like this:

And now, my usual “last thing I wrote”:
“My guess would be that he didn’t want to stick around and see this, so he’s off sulking somewhere. That’s his usual modus operandi.”

And now I must sleep, so
