NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 28

I am most thankful that this is almost done. I have a great ability to miss a couple of days (or not get near the needed word count), and then catch up in a surge of writing. It’s not the best method for this, but I’m glad I’m still pushing through. I actually didn’t expect to get caught up on words today, but I did! Yay!
Story-wise, I am definitely nearing the end. I’m also making weird things happen. One character is getting sick when he wasn’t suppose to. I’m sure I’ll make him miraculously better soon. The rest of the characters are all stressed and depressed. It’s the low point in the story. They, too, will get happier soon.
Last little bit in my story:
“Well, I’m here,” I said. We were silent a moment, soaking in our reunion. Then, without any indication to the other, we moved towards each other for an embrace in synchronized motion.
I hope you’re novel is going well - or is done! :o Care to talk about it?

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 25

I finally caught up again! And if I can keep my average somewhere around what I did today, I will definitely be in a very good place. It’s been a bit of a challenge to get there, but I think, being so close to the end, I can make it.
Story-wise, things seem to be just about on track. I might have to go a little bit over 50,000, but I think I can manage. My character is in a weird place right now. And someone might die! :o
Here’s what I wrote last:
Suddenly, it felt like everything would be okay. Of course, I didn’t realize powerful sedatives could have that kind of effect.
If you want to talk to someone about NaNoWriMo, your experience, or need motivation to push through, let me know! :)

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 24

Welp, I had fallen way behind. But after powering through for some time today, I’m almost caught up again! It’s pretty exciting to see, and I feel like, with what time I will have tomorrow, I may finally obtain that dream of getting ahead! =O
Story-wise, we’re getting to the dramatic moment that pushes through to the end of the story. Naturally, I’m not telling it properly. It doesn’t have the alarm or the power that it needs. But I’ll fix that all in revisions. The important thing for now is that I at least get a solid skeleton down.
The last bit that I wrote today is:
I could feel her close behind me on the stairs. I screamed again, hoping to call people close to my position. By the time I reached the top of the steps I could hear the bustle of people. They were already shouting, calling out to each other. None of them seemed ready to defend me, but more working to protect themselves. Indeed, the only people I saw coming towards my direction was Adrian with the doctor in tow. Their eyes were enlarged, surprised at the sight in front of them.
“Paige!” Adrian called out.
I hope each of your novels are going just as well - or much better - than mine!

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 22

image
I’m always a day behind it seems :[
But I will catch up. I’ve only a few days, but it will be done. Also, I feel like this one might honestly end at around 50,000 words, which will be nice. That way, I can use December actually for revisions rather than writing the next 50,000.

Story-wise, things are starting to pick up. My main character is starting to get comfortable, so, naturally, things are about to get rough. Her new home is about to get penetrated with a burst of violence. It’s not going to be very pretty, and the consequences are going to be very dramatic.
The last bit I wrote looks like this:
I smiled weakly. Pretty sure all I did was make him feel bad, so it was difficult to feel comfort or reassured myself, despite his best attempts.
Not my best work, but also not my worst.
How is your novel coming along?

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 17

Welp, I am perpetually about a day behind. I need to catch up. I originally had plans to be ahead. I’d like to finish by the 29th. I still have that hope in mind, but it currently seems like nothing but a dream that I cannot quite remember. I grasp at what I can, but it remains at this foggy distance.
Story-wise, things are moving along. It’s made things quite a bit easier the past couple of days. My characters are actually doing things, though currently they’re at a very weird place. Also, I know I need to go back and add in more of a love story between Dan and Paige. Currently, they just kind of are in love. No real story or development to it. But that’s for a later day.
Here’s the last wee bit I’ve written:
There was nothing I could do but march to the rhythm of the heartbeat pounding in my head. I tried to focus on the fact that, for this time, my hands were free. Maybe that would make this an hour I would actually enjoy. I took a breath, and awaited my first suitor in the shade of the tent.
Go be my writing buddy! And feel free to say hi!

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 12

Welp, I’m behind again. But I’m also really getting into a groove, so I feel like it will be easy to catch up. I still feel in a solid position to win, though I do need to improve my game if I want to win prior to November 30th.
Story-wise, I’m reaching a point that I reached with my last novel, too. It’s a point at which all the thoughts in my head say, “this is incredibly boring. No one will want to read this. You won’t even want to read this back.” I choose to ignore this thought in my mind since, first and foremost, I want to win and just complete my novel. That’s it. I’ll make it interesting in revisions, even if it means changing large portions of the story.
Last few words of the story today:
This warranted my attention. I turned to face him. Goodness he was handsome. Maybe the wrong guy was pursuing me. Oh well, I’d never know.
Feel free to be my writing buddy!

How are you doing at this whole “writing 50,000 words of a novel in one month” thing?

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 10

image
It’s day 10 and I’m still on track! I’d like to get ahead some time, but really, as long as I’m on track, I’m happy. I’m not sure if my writing quality is currently any good, and of course this always makes me want to go back and both re-read and re-write. But I’ll save that for a time when I’m no longer writing it.
Concerning the story: I don’t think it will be complete by the end of my 50,000 words. I think it will be longer. I’ll still give it an abrupt end around 50,000, and just claim the first draft is done. Then I’ll just add more to the end of the story in December, which will hopefully lead to my intentional end to the story.
This length of my novel is not helped by the fact that Paige and Dan have completely decided to go on this whole romantic tangent. I ask them to stop and they say no. At least I’ll get some context and character information out through their dating. Also, I think this will ultimately lead to Paige’s next big move, which will, of course, further the story.
Here’s the last bit that I wrote:
It reminded me a little bit of my street. My home.
I really should give you guys paragraphs, but I’m usually not proud enough of my writing.
Anyway, be my writing buddy on NaNoWriMo’s site! I’ve actually been chatting with some of my buddies. It’s fun!

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 9

image
I am completely back on track again! Yay! Today, I had a little bit of a struggle getting into the groove. But then I went to my room, where there was silence in place of talking, and I wrote at least a thousand of today’s words in about half of the time. I like learning of where I work best.
Story-wise, I am very clearly skimming some parts. I need to flesh out some interaction. I need to clarify why Paige is not only growing comfortable with Dan, but why she is growing to like him as much as she is now. Also: All of this romance stuff is coming up way sooner than planned. But Paige decided that she likes Dan, and Dan decided that he liked Paige pretty much from before they spoke. This is absolutely one of those moments when the characters are taking over and I cannot stop their actions.
Usually I just give the last sentence, but tonight I’m giving you just a wee bit more as well:
“You know,” said Dan, “I’m really glad Adrian brought you here.”
I turned to face him, and realized that he was a lot closer than I had planned. He leaned ever so slightly closer, and instantly his shoulder touched mine. I was frozen where I sat, save for my heart that pounded a little more loudly again.
“Me too,” I said. Why did I sound so calm? How was I doing that?
Don’t forget to add me as a writing buddy! And feel free to talk to me on there! :)

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 8

image
I FINALLY CAUGHT UP
image

I don’t know why it says I’ll finish December 1st when I’ll clearly be finishing on time! :D

I don’t have much time to write this today (spent all that time writing), so I’ll leave you with the last written sentence:
"I use to work as a secretary, but I’m out of the job now, obviously.”
Anyone else catching up or writing extra words?

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 7

I’m still a day behind on the number of words that I need to have written, but only a day. I can catch up, and I will. I still have hope that things will continue well, that I can pull through this yet.
My writing itself is turning kind of poor, but I’m getting through the story.
In the story, I’ve introduced the future love interest just a little bit earlier than planned. He just decided to start speaking up while Paige (my lead) was injured, and he was suppose to wait until she was better again. Oh well! His choice. Guess his forward and confident style must work for her.
And my last sentence written is:
The pain shot through me fresh, and I didn’t fight the sounds of agony that escaped from the tips of my toes all the way up and straight through my mouth.
As I said, the writing is a bit poorer in quality today.
If you want to, feel free to be my writing buddy and message me. :)
So what’s happening with your novel?

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 3

Well, I didn’t write as much today as planned. I had every hope to write at least 3500, particularly since I know I won’t have much change to write tomorrow. I hope I have enough time to at least write the 664 words I need to keep on track.
Story-wise, we’re getting to the point at which the plot really starts. The conflict is beginning, and the hero is having to act rather than remain passive. Can’t say how well I’m conveying that, but I’m enjoying trying ^_^
My last sentence written:
Hopefully it hadn’t escaped the house.

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 2

I feel like today went really well! I was again ahead of the target word count, and it flowed really nicely! I also finally settled on writing in past tense. I made a small marker to indicate that, when I do revisions, I need to change the start to past tense as well.
Story-wise, my main character met the guy who will be her best friend, but she doesn’t know this yet. However, she needed to be just a little bit more bitter towards him in her thoughts. If I run low on word count, I will definitely be going back and writing more of that in. But she was more aware of her loneliness (she’s literally been alone for a year) than I realized prior to writing. That made for an interesting new side of things.
A new segment to this post is going to be the last sentence I wrote that day. Here’s the last one for today:
And for the first time in a year, I thought too hard on things, and wept.
Don’t forget to add me as a writing buddy! We’ll exchange ideas and encouragement! ^_^

NaNoWriMo '13 - Day 1

image
For the first day, I got past the target words per day, which is good! But I also want to write extra on the weekends (and early on) to make up for any days I might miss. This is just a precaution, but one I usually like to practice. Plus, then I get done sooner! Anyway, I’m hoping I’ll write even more words per day tomorrow and Sunday. :)
Story-wise, I’m moving a bit faster than I’d like to move. It means I may have some words left over at the end without as much story to accomplish. Though, I suppose, I could go and add in more paragraphs of details, or even a subplot I didn’t originally intend.
EDIT: Also I’m writing it in first-person, present tense and I can’t tell you why. I know at least the present tense will probably change part-way through, and I won’t be able to stop it! Why did I do this to myself??
If you want to be my writing buddy, add me on NaNoWriMo’s site! ^_^
How did your first day of NaNoWriMo go?
